Fashion exhibition week

hehehehhhh

Tomorrow we’ll be setting up the first year fashion exhibition for our launch event at 6pm! Hope you can make it along to what is set to be a fantastic event! This poster provides another sneak peak at what’s to come…

Research projects

It’s that time of year again and our fourth years are working hard on their Honours dissertations. As always we have a really interesting variety of research projects going on and we’re very much looking forward to reading the results!

One of our students is carrying out research into the use of fashion blogs and is looking for participants (fashion students and non fashion students from 17-30 years old) for a focus group which will take place this month in Aberdeen. If you’re interested in getting involved then please contact Suzy at s.camlin@rgu.ac.uk. Your help is much appreciated!

The fifth edition

We’re pleased to announce that, in celebration of reaching a magazine project milestone, we will be naming this year’s issue…

The Fifth Edition

Our students have spent the past week brainstorming ideas and, having narrowed these down to a small range of suggestions, were voting for their favourite over the weekend.

It was felt that the number five just couldn’t be overlooked, particularly with its various fashion related connotations, from Chanel No. 5 to New York’s Fifth Avenue. There are also a number of other interesting references that can be drawn, including five star, the famous five, high five, etc.

Now that the name has been chosen, we’re so excited to see what this year’s cover will look like!

November flashback

November flashback

We’re feeling nostalgic again so here’s a little flashback to November 2012 at the Fashion Place.

It was a busy month where we saw our stage 2 students complete their photoshoots for the magazine project and our first years launch their “Charity Chic” fashion exhibition. This year the students are busy with the photoshoots once again so watch this space…

The fashion exhibition will take place in April this year and we can’t wait! It’s set to be a big project which will involve Fashion Management, PR and Events Management students at Aberdeen Business School. We’ll update you with more information about this in the new year!

Magazine Project

Image

Our stage 2 BA (Hons) Fashion Management students have started work on the annual magazine project as part of their module in fashion communication.

The magazine is in its fifth year and each year the students produce something completely different from the last. As part of this project, the students will each produce a magazine cover, fashion spread, product page, article, editor’s letter and contributor profile.

Last week, we had a visit from fashion photographer and lecturer at Aberdeen College, Steve Smith (http://stevewilliamsmith.com), who gave the students some interesting things to think about and inspiration for the photo shoots they’re currently planning. In order to ensure they get the best possible result from their shoots, the students are working on mood boards to help develop their concepts and convey these to their photographer and models. Most of the students will be working with photography students from Aberdeen College and Gray’s School of Art.

Another interesting aspect of the project is a blogging task  where students are required to set up a blog and, throughout the duration of the project, deliver at least ten posts. We look forward to sharing some of these with you in the next few weeks. The fashion magazine project has helped some of our students establish themselves as successful fashion bloggers, for example Nicola Kirkbridge who graduated in 2012 and works as a stylist in Melbourne, Australia (http://nicola-claire.blogspot.co.uk).

In a few weeks time, the students will choose a name for the magazine. And as soon as we know, you’ll know!

Fashion Magazine

Fashion Magazine

As part of our Fashion Communication module, our stage 2 Fashion Management students create and publish their own fashion magazine.

The students are responsible for all aspects of the project, from design and photography to content. A key consideration is the magazine cover and here are our covers from the last 4 years.

We can’t wait to see what the students come up with this year!

Good luck girls and keep in touch!

World of Colour Fashion Show

Our World of Colour fashion show has been and gone and was a huge success! Our stage 3 Fashion Management students raised a grand total of £8,826 for MND Scotland! Here’s a short documentary which the students put together and showed on the night. Lots of photos to follow!
