Third Year Digital Fashion Show!

Fashion Is…

The planning for this year’s digital fashion show has officially begun!

For the past two weeks, the third year Fashion Management students have been learning all about filming, editing and what it takes to organise and undertake a fashion video shoot. All of what we learned will be put into practice over the next four weeks as we film the different scenes for our video, edit our footage, and in the end turn it into an exciting video that we will showcase on May 5th at our launch event.

The theme that we have been given for this year is “Fashion is Creative. Fashion is Cultural. Fashion is Business.” We have been given the freedom to interpret this theme in any way we want for our video. As a group, we’ve collected all of our different ideas together and believe we’ve come up with an innovative and creative concept, focusing on “creative”, “cultural” and “business” fashion.

Guest Speaker: Julie Brander

JulieB

It was lovely to welcome this familiar face back to RGU this morning!

Julie Brander graduated in our first BA (Hons) Fashion Management cohort and, since then, has enjoyed an exciting and successful career in the Scottish Communications sector as an Account Manager with Weber Shandwick. Julie has very kindly come along to talk to a number of our student cohorts about her career and some of the opportunities that exist for our hard working and creative students!

Thank you for a very inspiring talk Julie!

The Cotton Candies

Group 1 Cotton Candies

Who doesn’t love candy floss and a touch of pink? That’s what one of our student groups thought when they chose a candy striped shirt from Aberdeen’s Cancer Research shop! Styled with a denim skirt, the Cotton Candies plan to theme their fashion showcase around a traditional British carnival – inspired by the hit musical and movie Grease.

We look forward to seeing this colourful, feel-good fun brought to life at the exhibition launch on the 12th of April! We’re guessing there will be sweeties involved…

It’s (almost) showtime for our fashion exhibition…

Beetlejuice3

We’re pleased to reveal another exciting theme from our upcoming Fashion Exhibition: a Celebration of Creativity and Culture… One of our student teams headed to Aberdeenshire’s Haddo House to stage a Beetlejuice themed photoshoot featuring two of the students (first year Fashion Management) as models (don’t they look great?!) and their garment – sourced from Aberdeen’s Shelter charity shop.

Beetlejuice2

The team are hoping to raise awareness of Shelter’s mission to help the homeless through a creative showcase, inspired by the 1988 cult classic movie Beetlejuice and its links to fashion trends.

“Fam fatale”: A celebration of 1920’s fashion and style

Team 4 Great Gatsby

We’re pleased to reveal another theme from this year’s fashion exhibition… “fam fatale”! This particular showcase promotes Oxfam, whose international work on women’s rights has inspired the students to host a Great Gatsby themed exhibition, tipping their Trilby hats to  celebrate 1920’s fashion and style.

Breakfast at Barnardo’s

Group 10 BreakfastatTiffanys

As promised, we are pleased to reveal the first of our themes from this year’s fashion exhibition, Breakfast at Barnardo’s!

Our students would like to invite you to visit their creative showcase inspired by the Barnardo’s mission and the Audrey Hepburn classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Want to find out more? Come along to the launch event between 12 and 2 on Wednesday the 12th of April…

A celebration of creativity and culture

The countdown is on to our annual charity fashion exhibition: a celebration of creativity and culture! Our first years are working hard on their creative ideas…

IMG_5021

Last week, the students presented their ideas as part of a formal business pitch and we really enjoyed seeing some of their initial ideas brought to life in the form of mood boards, posters and videos – well done everyone!

Student groups were each assigned a charity (Cancer Research, Chest Heart and Stroke, CLAN, Oxfam, Stella’ Voice, PDSA, Save the Children, Shelter, Sue Ryder Care and Barnardo’s) and given £10 to spend on a garment from the charity’s local branch; they were then asked to choose a cultural artefact and this – combined with the garment and their charity’s mission – would form the basis of their creative showcase!

We’re looking forward to sharing some of these ideas over the next few weeks in the run up to the exhibition’s launch on the 12th of April! We’ve seen a real variety of themes so far, from cult classic TV shows to Hollywood blockbusters and novels! Can you guess (from the garments above) what some of these themes might be…?
