Stage Three Fashion Students

This is indeed a Student Takeover and yes we have been given the keys to the castle (this is not a hack, I promise). We are Stage Three Fashion Management Students and we’re hoping to put on the best Digital Fashion Show of 2016.

After having brilliant experiences in numerous companies for our placements, 15 of us are now back at RGU and are focused and excited about this modern take of a fashion show. The theme is Northern Culture but don’t be fooled folks, we have fresh, unique ideas to bring our film to life. What comes to mind when you think of Aberdeen? Oil? Well you would be right, there are numerous directions we could take this fashion film, however we decided a fight of the energy forces would be the way to go which led us to create the #chooseyourenergy hashtag for social media purposes. This is a fantastic way to interact and keeps everyone up to date with our progress.

We have incredible models ready to go for our oil, gas, wind, water and solar shoots and are in the process of sourcing garments from brilliant retailers such as New Look and John Lewis and from young talented Scottish designers (some who have graduated from RGU) to keep it modern, fresh and fabulous. Below, you will see that there were a few fashion students let loose around the John Lewis store earlier this week in preparation for fast approaching photo shoot days.

Digital Fashion Show: The First Week

The first Digital Fashion Show at Aberdeen Business School kicked off this week…

DFS Week 1 Blog.jpg

Our resident MAC Learning Technician, Jen, did a fantastic job of introducing us to camera operation, shooting, filming, and video editing with Final Cut Pro X. Our students have embraced this new project and are enjoying learning industry relevant skills in the growing area of fashion film production. They have a busy few weeks ahead as there is still model sourcing, garment and outfit styling, set design, shooting, music sourcing, and possibly even some drone action to think about.

Stay tuned to watch this exciting project unfold.

#tbt London Fashion Weekend

A flashback to this time last week when our 2nd year and Masters students were taking in the sights, sounds and shops of London on the annual trip to London Fashion Weekend. It was hosted for the first time in the beautiful setting of Saatchi Gallery. It was a fabulous front row experience of some of the industries most desirable brands and taking inspiration from the latest trends for the coming season.

But it was not only catwalks and flagship shopping on the agenda. We managed to take in the Liberty in Fashion Exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum, showcasing this iconic department store’s beautiful prints through the decades.

A lovely trip that saw many students’ first visit to London, who we’re sure are already looking forward to the next one!

Store design

We had a fun morning visiting Union Square and Bon Accord & St Nicholas shopping malls with our first years who are carrying out research for their store design project!

Each year our students choose an Aberdeen-based unit on which to base a design concept for a hypothetical new fashion store.

Watch this space for our students’ exciting window display designs which we’ll share in April; these will be based on a Rio theme in celebration of the upcoming Olympic Games!
