A celebration of creativity and culture

Today our first year Fashion Management, Events Management and Public Relations students launched their Fashion Exhibition: a Celebration of Creativity and Culture. There were so many highlights that we don’t quite know where to begin…

We’re looking forward to sharing more photos of the full exhibition spaces soon but here’s a sneak peak at some of the charity shop garments and from today’s launch event!

The stands looked great and were all really different and exciting in their own way! From balloon animals to tarot card readings, there were lots of interesting ideas for audience engagement.

There was even some handmade bunting which will be donated to Sue Ryder Care after the exhibition!

Tomorrow our students have their exhibition debrief where we’ll discuss our successes and identify areas for improvement.

Overall, we’d like to congratulate our students on a wonderfully styled and creative event! Although we don’t yet have a final total, we’re delighted to have raised over £200 between the charities represented.

Repeat patterns

pattern making

Our first years have been busy creating repeat patterns as part of their Fashion Construction and Technology module! We love these examples.

“Fam fatale”: A celebration of 1920’s fashion and style

Team 4 Great Gatsby

We’re pleased to reveal another theme from this year’s fashion exhibition… “fam fatale”! This particular showcase promotes Oxfam, whose international work on women’s rights has inspired the students to host a Great Gatsby themed exhibition, tipping their Trilby hats to  celebrate 1920’s fashion and style.

For the second year running, one of our students is doing her placement in New York! Third Year BA (Hons) Fashion Management student Nikola is making the most of her time in the Big Apple by attending some of the shows for New York Fashion Week.

We love this shot from the Mister Triple X show – and what a venue!

Fashion exhibition project launch

img_37562

Today we launched our annual fashion exhibition with first year Fashion Management, Event Management and Public Relations students! Students were split into ten teams and given ten pounds to be spent in an allocated Aberdeen-based charity shop.  The project will run for the next ten weeks where students will plan and organise a fashion exhibition to be held on Wednesday the 12th of April.

In celebration of our newly formed School of Creative and Cultural Business, the students have been asked to choose a cultural artefact and this will form the inspiration behind their exhibition space. We’re so excited to see what the different teams come up with!

More on this to follow where we look forward to sharing the students’ garment choices and plans for the exhibition…

Congratulations to the Class of 2016

Today we watched our fabulous fourth years graduate and we’d like to wish them all the very best for the future! It’s always a bit sad to say goodbye to our students when they reach the end of the course but we look forward to seeing what exciting opportunities lie ahead. Keep in touch everyone and enjoy your celebrations!

Applicants’ Days 2016

We really enjoyed welcoming prospective students at today’s Applicants’ Day event! A huge thank you to all our guests for attending and everyone who helped make this event a success.

A very big and special thank you to third year Fashion Management student Kat, who’s on placement here at Aberdeen Business School and created this fabulous window display!

Store design

We had a fun morning visiting Union Square and Bon Accord & St Nicholas shopping malls with our first years who are carrying out research for their store design project!

Each year our students choose an Aberdeen-based unit on which to base a design concept for a hypothetical new fashion store.

Watch this space for our students’ exciting window display designs which we’ll share in April; these will be based on a Rio theme in celebration of the upcoming Olympic Games!

Happy 29th of February

Happy 29th of February everyone!

Although you’re all far too busy to contemplate the opportunity to propose today, we thought you might like to know the fashion implications of a leap year… Just in case the mood takes you, make sure you are properly attired. Women should wear breeches or a scarlet petticoat to pop the question today and our Danish friends can look forward to receiving 12 pairs of gloves if the gentleman refuses her advances, while in Finland, she will receive enough fabric for a skirt.

We hope this information has lightened your day and, if you’re working in retail, may you sell many red petticoats!

Thanks to Hannah for sharing this fabulous photo from London!
